About the Network

Our Story

Inspired by the Massachusetts Solidarity Economy Network and the Virginia Solidarity Economy Network, we aim to radically transform  the fourth largest economy in the world - to decentralize it, democratize it cooperatively, and to shift the economy to serve the working people's needs equitably and sustainably.

In 2023, activists from across the country and met at the Resist and Build Convergence, where talks began of a California Solidarity Economy Network. In 2024, the Just Economies Summit brought together economic justice activists across the state. Finally, USSEN prompted California organizations to start a network with some of these folks. A seed grant from the New Economy Coalition funded our work for the first months, followed a small grant from USSEN for 2025.

We have been meeting monthly since late last year. Currently, we consist of about a dozen representatives from organizations and practical, on the ground, solidarity economy projects. We include cooperative movement leaders, public banking advocates, labor and social justice activist organizations, new economy business incubators, legal and policy activists, and much more. If you want to connect and possibly join our meetings, contact [email protected].
